The Banyan Tree Hotels & Resorts brand is coming to the Bahamas.

The Banyan Tree Illa Bahamas resort on the island of Bimini will be set on 40 acres fronting the Atlantic and will offer a 50-room hotel, 54 luxury residences, over-the-water bungalows, private plunge pools and a spa, among other amenities.

"As our first luxury resort in the Bahamas, Banyan Tree Illa Bahamas will showcase our connection with the environment and local culture," said Peter Hechler, head of regional operations.

The property represents the company's "continued strategic intent to expand into the Americas," according to Hechler.

Banyan Tree's portfolio includes 50 properties across four brands in 24 countries, including several properties in Cuba and Mexico.
