The El Embajador, a Royal Hideaway Hotel in the Bellavista
neighborhood of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, has completed a two-year,
$40 million renovation.
The property, which did not close during the renovation, was
acquired by the Barcelo Hotel Group in 2015 and is under Barcelo’s Royal
Hideaway Luxury Hotels & Resorts brand.
The historic hotel opened in 1956 and attracted famous
personalities from the worlds of film, music, culture and politics. Its facilities were used as the set of films, including "The
Godfather: Part II" and "The Lost City."
The 298 suites were upgraded, the new Wellness & Spa was
added and 10,000 square feet of ballroom space was added. El Jardin and Los
Porches restaurants were updated.
