The Meridian Club in Turks and Caicos has joined Relais & Chateaux, making it the hotel association's first property in the Turks and Caicos and one of only eight resorts in the Caribbean.

The luxury, private-island resort has 13 beachfront guestrooms on the 800-acre island of Pine Cay, set between Providenciales and North Caicos.

Relais & Chateaux counts more than 580 independent hotels and restaurants worldwide as members.

"This five-star establishment offers the quintessence of privacy," Relais & Chateaux said in a statement, adding that the Meridian Club Pine Cay "champions our core pillars of sustainability and biodiversity."

Other Caribbean resorts in the Relais & Chateaux group are Quintessence Hotel in Anguilla; Tiamo Resort on Andros Island in the Bahamas; Rosedon Hotel in Bermuda; Secret Bay in Dominica; Eden Roc in Cap Cana, the Dominican Republic; Calabash Hotel in Grenada and Hotel Le Toiny in St. Barts.
