Island-hopping between the U.S. Virgin Islands just got easier.
Native Son Ferry now offers high-speed ferry service between St. Thomas and St. Croix two days a week in both directions.
The Native Son company is a familiar name in the Virgin Islands. Native Son Ferry has operated service between St. Thomas and Tortola in the British Virgin Islands since 1977.
Now, due to interest and demand from residents and visitors for ferry service between St. Croix and St. Thomas, the company expanded to include regular crossings between the two islands on Fridays and Sundays in both directions.
The two-hour ferry ride offers air-conditioned seating inside or outside on the sun deck.
After landing in St. Croix at the Gallows Bay Ferry Terminal, it's a short walk or taxi ride to historic downtown Christiansted with its restaurants, shops, island tours, diving, the waterfront boardwalk and nearby Buck Island National Park.
The Friday schedule leaves St. Thomas at 8 a.m. and St. Croix at 4 p.m. The Sunday schedule offers a noon departure from St. Thomas and 4 p.m. from St. Croix.
One-way ferry rates are $75 for adults, $60 for seniors 62 and older, and $50 for kids 12 and under. Roundtrip fares are $120, $100 and $90, respectively.
For visitors in a hurry, Seaborne Airlines' seaplane service is a fun, fast 25-minute flight from downtown to downtown on both islands.
Seaborne offers 30 flights a day, priced from $210 one way.
