The U.S. Virgin Islands' "Centennial Commemoration" promotion now is available through U.S. tour operators.
The promotion, introduced last month, gives visitors $300 in spending credits for tours and activities while in the territory.
It began as a direct-to-consumer initiative but has generated so much interest that the Department of Tourism expanded the offer to wholesale partners and tour operators, according to Canika John, director of marketing.
The centennial, which will be celebrated on March 31, marks 100 years since Transfer Day, when the Danish West Indies officially became the Virgin Islands of the U.S.
To receive the spending credits, visitors must book a minimum three-night stay at one or more of the 11 participating hotels (11 each on St. Croix and St. Thomas and five on St. John) through tour operator partners by March 31.
Participating operators are Travel Impressions, Apple Vacations, American Airlines Vacations, Costco Travel, Delta Vacations, Expedia, Flight Center Travel Group, JetBlue Vacations, Pleasant Holidays, Mark Travel and Villas of Distinction.
