Carnival Cruise Line tapped the first keg of a new seasonal brew called Miami Guava Wheat, to be served at the RedFrog Pub & Brewery onboard the Carnival Vista.

Vista brewmaster Colin Presby said the flavor was inspired by Miami's guava pastries, a Cuban-American favorite. "The guava flavor works really nicely in a wheat beer," Presby said.

The beer is the first fruit-flavored beer Carnival has tried, and its third seasonal brew.

Hotel director Pierre Camilleri used a rubber mallet to pound the tap into the first barrel, a 10.8-gallon size called a firkin, at a shipboard celebration before the Vista's Saturday departure on its current cruise.
