Carnival to launch its first Europe sailings in '02

NEW YORK -- Carnival Cruise Lines' 88,500-ton Carnival Legend, currently under construction in Helsinki, Finland, will debut next summer and sail the line's first European cruise itinerary.

The 2,124-passenger ship's inaugural voyage will be a 12-day roundtrip departure from London on Aug. 24, 2002, with calls at Copenhagen, Denmark; Warnemunde, Germany; Helsinki; St. Petersburg, Russia and Amsterdam, Netherlands.

The 12-day inaugural will be followed by a 15-day transatlantic voyage departing London on Sept. 5 and visiting Le Harve, France; Cobh, Ireland; Greenock, Scotland; Reykjavik, Iceland, and St. John's, Newfoundland.

"Guests have been requesting [Carnival] voyages from Europe for a number of years," said Bob Dickinson, Carnival's president.

He said Carnival may offer additional European cruises "in the future."
