Continued shipyard problems delay Scenic ship again: Travel Weekly

Scenic Luxury Cruises & Tours said the debut of its first 200-passenger luxury expedition ship, Scenic Eclipse, has been pushed back to Aug. 15.

"The ongoing financial challenges faced by the Uljanik shipyard, where Scenic Eclipse is being built, have caused a range of ongoing impacts," Scenic said. The company said a Scenic team has taken over the lead role in completing the ship.

According to a Scenic statement, shipyard workers have not been paid full salaries since August 2018, which has led to strikes and manpower shortages as well as several other shipyard disruptions.

Scenic said its team includes 115 cruise specialists from Finland, Italy, the U.K. and Norway, who are cooperating with the shipyard's remaining management team and subcontractors.

It said Uljanik Group, a consortium comprised of the Croatian DIV group and Italian shipyard Fincantieri, was named as the new owner of Uljanik on Feb. 7.

Scenic has twice before delayed the arrival of the ship, which was originally scheduled for last year.
