Discovery Cruise Line to shut down

Discovery Cruise Line, a day-trip operator between Fort Lauderdale and Grand Bahama, has sold its only vessel, the 1,200-passenger Discovery Sun and will cease operating on Sept. 6, according to Hanns Hahn, the Discovery's vice president and general manager.

The Fort Lauderdale-based company had announced in May that it would temporarily halt service in early September so the ship could undergo refurbishment.

Hahn, citing confidentiality agreements, said he could not disclose the buyer of the Discovery Sun or its sale price.

In addition to day trips to Grand Bahama, the Discovery markets two-night cruise-and-stay packages at several resorts on Grand Bahama.
