Disney Cruise Line will resume service from the U.S. on Aug. 9 with the Disney Dream's departure from Port Canaveral, with new Covid-19 related protocols in place.

The 3- and 4-day cruises to the line's private island, Disney Castaway Cay in the Bahamas, will not offer character meet-and-greets. Passengers over the age of 2 must wear masks indoors, regardless of vaccination status, except in cabins or while eating or drinking. Face coverings are not required for guests outdoors while on the ship and Castaway Cay.

"Disney characters will interact with guests from a distance in new and entertaining ways," the line says on its Covid protocols page. "However, close-up encounters and autographs have been temporarily paused."

Passengers will also have to practice physical distancing, Disney said.

"While some things may look a bit different for now, you can be sure that the dazzling entertainment, impeccable service and attention to detail that have long defined Disney vacations remain the same," Disney Signature Experiences president Thomas Mazloum said in an Instagram post

Like Carnival Cruise Line, Royal Caribbean and Celebrity Cruises, Disney strongly encourages all eligible guests to be fully vaccinated against Covid-19 before sailing and will make those that are not vaccinated purchase travel insurance and pay to be tested both prior to embarkation and on the day of departure. Passengers 11 and under will not have to pay for pre-cruise testing.

Disney also canceled sailings on the Disney Fantasy through Aug. 28; the Disney Wonder through Sept. 19; and the Disney Magic through Nov. 4. The Disney Magic is sailing in the U.K. this summer on short voyages exclusive to U.K. residents.
