While turkeys are being prepped for the oven this year, Holland America Line will be parading the streets of New York with a debut appearance in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.
Holland America's float will feature a bear, wolf, moose and other wildlife scenes from Alaska, where it has been sailing for 78 years. A kinetic sculpture on the float, the largest in the parade's history, the cruise line said, will animate elements such as sculpted animals and glaciers.
President Beth Bodensteiner called the parade "a national stage where we can celebrate our nearly 80 years exploring Alaska."
Other cruise lines have been seen on the parade route over the years. Disney Cruise Line appeared last year with a "Magic Meets the Seas" float, but it has been a participant several times, including with a Sailor Mickey balloon. Royal Caribbean International showcased a float in 2013 dubbed "A World at Sea."
