Italian actress Margareth Madè will serve as godmother of the Costa Favolosa when the 3,800-passenger ship is named July 2 in Trieste, Italy.
Madè, a former model, starred in the Italian film "Baaria."
"Margareth Madè and Costa Cruises share the values that represent the Italian style: beauty, refinement and a strong personality," said Pier Luigi Foschi, chairman and CEO of Costa Crociere.
"It could only have been this fabulous actress, who rose by right to the international elite of Italian icons, to become the muse of our flagship and Costa's unmistakable world-renowned style."
The naming ceremony, said Costa, also will feature pianist Ludovico Einaudi and the ballet school of the Accademia Teatro alla Scala. Italian journalist Cristina Parodi will serve as master of ceremonies.
Following the christening, the Costa Favolosa will sail a three-day cruise departing from Venice July 4, with calls at Dubrovnik, Croatia; and Koper, Slovenia.
The 11-day inaugural cruise departs from Venice on July 7 and calls at Bari, Italy; Smyrna and Istanbul, Turkey; Mykonos, Piraeus and Olympia, Greece; and Dubrovnik.
For the 2011 summer season, the Costa Favolosa will sail seven-day cruises from Venice and Bari to Olympia, Smyrna, Istanbul and Dubrovnik.
For the winter 2011-12 season the ship will operate a series of cruises from Dubai.
