NCL selects 'Norwegian Sun' as new ship moniker

MIAMI -- Norwegian Cruise Line selected the name Norwegian Sun for its 2,012-passenger, 80,000-ton cruise ship, scheduled for delivery from Germany's Lloyd Werft shipyard in September 2001.

The name was selected following a travel agent naming contest that attracted 12,000 entries, said Colin Veitch, NCL's president and chief executive officer.

The Norwegian Sun will feature an eight-deck high glass-domed atrium, three main dining rooms and several alternative dining venues, a spa and salon and an Internet cafe. The ship is the second in a series that began last year with 2,000-passenger Norwegian Sky.
