The Norwegian Dream collided with a barge
that was adrift in an entrance channel near the port of Montevideo,
Uruguay, on Monday, while the cruise ship was departing the port.
Norwegian Cruise
Line said that the overall safety of the vessel has not been
compromised, but that there is damage to the ship's bow and forward
ballast tank. Repairs are currently underway, and the ship was not
expected to depart Montevideo until late afternoon on
Thursday.
As a result of the
accident, NCL is offering guests a 50% refund on their cruise fare
and a number of shore excursions for guests while it remains docked
in Montevideo.
Following the
collision, the ship docked in Montevideo at approximately 7:15 p.m.
local time Monday and a repair team boarded the vessel, discovering
that the required repair was more extensive than originally
expected.
The Norwegian Dream
is on a 14-day Chilean Fjords/Strait of Magellan cruise which
departed Buenos Aires on Dec. 9 and ends on Dec. 23 in Valparaiso,
Chile.
