Norwegian Pearl cruise canceled

Norwegian Cruise Line has canceled a 13-day cruise that was scheduled to depart Rome on July 5 because of a technical issue with the Norwegian Pearl.

The 2,394-passenger ship was unable to proceed at full speed on its current cruise, a 13-day sailing that left Amsterdam on June 22.  Media reports in the U.K. said the ship was kept overnight in Barcelona on July 2 and calls to Mallorca and Monaco were canceled.

NCL began calling guests and travel advisors with bookings on the July 5 cruise, offering a refund on the cruise and pre-booked shore excursions. The calls cite "unforeseen mechanical issues," and offer an apology for the "inconvenience and disappointment the unexpected situation has caused."

The July 5 roundtrip cruise from Rome (Civitavecchia) had scheduled stops in Kotor, Montenegro;  Dubrovnik, Croatia; Corfu, Greece; Santorini, Mykonos, and Piraeus (Athens), Greece; Messina, Sicily; Naples and Livorno (Florence/Pisa), Italy; and Monaco.
