Port Canaveral, the second-busiest cruise port in the world, will build a new terminal and parking garage to meet growing demand, particularly for the world's largest cruise ships.
Completion of the multi-user terminal at the existing North 8 berth is expected in the summer of 2026.
"We have cruise partners with immediate needs to locate assets in Florida, and Port Canaveral is where they want to be," stated Capt. John Murray, Port Canaveral CEO.
The North 8 berth was built in 2018 and will require an extension to accommodate larger cruise ships. Terminal construction is expected to mean minimal disruption to current port operations due to the current berth configuration and vacant uplands, Port Canaveral said.
The port also has experienced an increased demand for parking. The new parking garage is expected to accommodate up to 3,000 vehicles. The project will include roadway improvement entering and exiting the new facility, turning lanes and a flyover ramp connecting the site to State Road 401.
Port Canaveral was briefly crowned the busiest in the world, overtaking Port Miami in fiscal year 2022. Although Miami reclaimed that title the next year, Port Canaveral had a record 6.8 million passengers in fiscal 2023.
