Silversea installing wireless Internet networks on its ships

FORT LAUDERDALE -- Silversea Cruises is installing WiFi hotspots around its four ships and revamping its Internet centers with 17-inch flat-screen monitors and new computers.

The "enhanced cyber technology," as Silversea called it, was installed on the Silver Shadow in August and will be installed onboard Silversea's three other ships by the end of the year.

Maritime Telecommunications Network is providing the satellite technology.

Silversea said passengers who bring their own wireless-enabled laptops can access the Internet in the ships' forward observation lounge, the library, the card room and the conference room.

In addition, passengers will have access to 270 daily newspapers from around the world for a "nominal fee," as well as access to the Fox News channel on the in-suite TVs.
