New York-based small-ship operator Travel Dynamics International has acquired a former Cruise West ship, most recently known as the Spirit of Yorktown.

The 138-passenger ship was owned by General Electric Capital Corp. following the bankruptcy of Cruise West in the fall of 2010.

Travel Dynamics co-owner Vasos Papagapitos said the ship will enter service in May 2012, sailing an inaugural cruise from Gloucester, Mass., to Montreal.

Next summer it will operate a series of cruises in the Great Lakes and along Canada’s St. Lawrence Seaway.

He said the ship, which currently is in Seattle, will receive some upgrades before it enters service.

The vessel will be renamed the Yorktown; it is the former Yorktown Clipper that was originally operated by Clipper Cruise Lines.
