About 100 passengers on a Carnival Dream cruise from New
Orleans were affected last week when a water main burst, flooding a hallway and
some adjacent cabins.
The scene of a gushing leak, with water flowing in sheets
down the hallway, was captured on a five second cell phone video that was
extensively posted on social media.
Carnival said the water line break occurred near the dinner
hour at 6 p.m. on May 3.
In a statement, Carnival said that within six hours, the
crew had replaced hall and stateroom carpeting, dried out other sections of
carpeting that were damp but did not need to be replaced, and restored the 50
staterooms so that all guests could sleep in their beds that evening.
A handful of guests chose to sleep on mattresses in the spa
that night, Carnival said.
Carnival offered a full refund and a credit toward 50% of
the value of their cruise on a future voyage to the affected guests. It also
offered to fly them home free, if they wanted to disembark early. Carnival said
two passengers chose to do so.
