SALT LAKE CITY -- Television viewers tuned in to "Survivor 6," now
running on CBS-TV, are surely getting the idea that it's a jungle
out there.
And indeed it is, there on location in Brazil, roughly 35 miles
from Manaus.
According to Carlos Fida, president of PanAmerican Travel
Services, " 'Survivor 6' has raised interest in travel to the
Amazon region, which is indeed a thrilling destination but in
reality is safe and often very comfortable."
Fida said PanAmerican's newest package offers the perfect
location for clients to get a close-up Amazon experience: a stay at
the Uakari Floating Lodge, part of the Mamiraua Ecotourism Project
and located 90 minutes by boat from Tefe town on the Solimoes
River.
Headquartered within the protected area of the Mamiraua Reserve,
the Mamiraua Ecotourism Project offers excursions along river
channels, lakes and forest trails as well as visits to local
villages whose people are trained to take part in the management of
the project.
The Uakari Floating Lodge has 10 suites with two double beds and
a seating area. A central unit houses a restaurant, a bar, a
library, video equipment and a conference room.
PanAmerican Travel services offers a three-night stay, priced at
$835 per person, double, ($147 single supplement).
The cost includes accommodations, all meals with nonalcoholic
beverages, excursions with a bilingual guide, national park
entrance fees and roundtrip transfers from Tefe airport to the
lodge.
For clients booking mid-week (Wednesdays to Saturdays), the
price per person, double, is $550; roundtrip air fare from Manaus
to Tefe (on Varig or Rico airlines) is not included in either
package.
Closer to Manaus, the company offers a three-night package at
the Ecopark Lodge, whose 54 air-conditioned suites have private
baths and hot showers.
Activities range from visits to a monkey jungle and evening
alligator spotting to piranha fishing and a boat excursion.
Including transfers by boat to the lodge, accommodations with
all meals and excursions, the package cost per person, double, is
$461.
