PHILLIPSBURG, St. Maarten -- Callers to St. Maarten are required to
follow new dialing instructions, effective this spring.
The St. Maarten Telephone Co. and the Bureau of
Telecommunications of the Netherlands Antilles have enacted a new
prefix dialing system for reaching the island.
Foreign callers must now dial (011) 599-54, followed by the
five-digit local number.
For local calls within St. Maarten, the five-digit number must
be prefixed by 54.
International calls from the Netherlands or the Netherlands
Antilles to St. Maarten must be prefixed by 0-54 and then the
five-digit number.
The old system will be phased out entirely by June 30. After
that date, only calls placed with the correct prefix will be
connected.
