Kempinski manages its first property in Morocco

MARRAKESH, Morocco -- Kempinski Hotels & Resorts took over operations of a hotel here, the company's first property in Africa.

The hotel, known as the Kempinski Hotel Mansour Eddahbi, features 438 rooms, and is adjacent to one of the largest conference venues in Africa, the Palais du Congres.

The Palais du Congres contains facilities for more than 1,500 people, with two auditoriums capable of handling 450 and 350 people, respectively, plus 30 meeting rooms and 10 exhibit spaces.

Kempinski, a German hotelier, said it expects the Hotel Mansour Eddahbi, which is located in Marrakesh's city center, to be a hot spot for meetings.

Elsewhere in Africa, Kempinski recently announced a management contract for a hotel in Cairo, set to open in 2003.

Overall, the company manages more than 30 hotels worldwide, including a property in Ajman, United Arab Emirates.

Rates start at about $140 for a standard room.
