WASHINGTON -- Marriott International, headquartered here, opened
its first full-service Marriott property in Anchorage on March 29.
A grand opening celebration is slated for May 9.
The 20-story, 393-room Anchorage Marriott Downtown hotel is the
first upscale, high-rise hotel to be built in Anchorage in more
than 20 years.
The projected summer occupancy is 83% to 85%, according to Susan
Mueller, director of sales for the hotel.
The hotel will cater to a mix of business and leisure travelers
and groups, including cruise line passengers from Holland America
and Princess Cruises, she said.
The property has 14,076 square feet of meeting space and is
located near the Egan Convention Center and five miles from
Anchorage Airport.
Mueller said the hotel features oversize picture windows in each
guest room, with views of three mountain ranges: the Chugach, the
Talkeetna and the Alaska, which includes Mount McKinley.
"The concierge lounge on the 20th floor has a spectacular view
of Mount McKinley," she said.
Amenities include teleconferencing, a business center, a
concierge level, a health club with a sauna and a whirlpool spa, an
indoor pool, a full-service restaurant, a lobby bar and 24-hour
room service.
The hotel offers facilities for persons with disabilities.
The property will be operated as a Marriott franchisee by the
Columbia Sussex Corp. of Fort Mitchell, Ky.
The Anchorage Marriott pays a 10% commission.
