PHILIPSBURG, St. Maarten -- US Airways will increase its service to
St. Maarten for the winter season.
Effective Nov. 12, the carrier will offer daily service from
Philadelphia and weekend flights from Charlotte, N.C.
In addition, traveling between St. Maarten and neighboring
islands will become easier later this year, thanks to the Caribbean
Alliance between Winair (based in St. Maarten) and Liat (based in
Antigua), announced in July.
The lines offer service between St. Maarten or Antigua and
Anguilla, Dominica, Nevis, Puerto Rico, Saba, St. Barts, St. Croix,
St. Eustatius, St. Kitts, St. Thomas and Tortola.
The alliance will streamline the fleets to offer expanded
service between the French islands, St. Maarten, Antigua and the
Dominican Republic.
One-way fares through Dec. 14 start at $30 from St. Maarten to
Anguilla via Winair. Winair serves the islands with a selection of
39 daily flights.
To book, call Liat at (011) 599-54 54203 or Winair at (011)
599-54 54237. Winair can be booked through the major CRSs while
Liat can be booked through Sabre.
A $5.4 million expansion program is under way at Princess
Juliana Airport in St. Maarten.
Plans call for construction of an enlarged parking apron for
aircraft, allowing for future growth in air arrivals to St.
Maarten. The airport greets about 1.6 million guests annually.
A new VIP/Business Class Lounge should be completed this
month.
Hotels around the island also are sprucing up.
