Viva Resorts woos newlyweds: Travel Weekly

Viva Resorts woos newlyweds

GRAND BAHAMA ISLAND, Bahamas -- Viva Resorts is courting wedding planners and couples with a choice of commissionable newlywed and vow-renewal add-on deals and free honeymoon perks at its all-inclusive Viva Fortuna Beach property here.

"Recognizing the significant cost factor that accompanies a traditional wedding, we have developed several inexpensive, hassle-free alternatives," said Viva Resorts president Ettore Colussi in a statement.

To wit, the Mini Wedding package offers a $499 ceremony that nets the services of an on-site wedding coordinator and a civil judge and covers all legal expenses, a bridal bouquet and groom's boutonniere, decorations, 10 photos, a bottle of champagne and a fruit basket.

The ritzier Classic Wedding package, at $649, adds live music, a cake, bar service and snacks for 10 people to the standard package.

Newlyweds then can celebrate with a reception for 10 at the resort's La Trattoria; the $249 reception package serves up appetizers and cocktails, a dinner, a wedding cake, live music, wedding decorations and a bottle of champagne.

Longtime spouses can renew their vows with Viva Fortuna Beach's Wedding Renewal package; the deal, priced at $369, offers the same benefits as the Mini Wedding package, minus the legal expenses and fruit basket.

After getting hitched, newlyweds who stay a minimum of three nights get a free honeymoon add-on package that features a room upgrade (based on availability), a bottle of champagne or sparkling wine, a fresh fruit basket, a tray of hors d'oeuvres, a souvenir and two Viva Resorts T-shirts.

Rates at Viva Fortuna Beach are $81 per person, per night, double occupancy, through Feb. 14, and $143 per person, per night, Feb. 15 through April 19.

Travel agent pay is 12% and another 10% on wedding ceremony and reception add-on packages.

Rates cover accommodations; all meals and snacks; unlimited beverages, cocktails and wine; activities and fitness programs; unlimited nonmotorized water sports with lessons; nightly entertainment; and taxes, surcharges and gratuities.

Viva Fortuna Beach features 276 rooms in oceanview and gardenview categories. Each room has two queen-size beds, central air conditioning, satellite TV, an in-room safe and a private balcony.

Resort facilities include access to a freshwater pool, a 400-seat theater, a disco, tour and hospitality desks, shops and first-aid and laundry facilities.
