Je suis Charlie: Travel Weekly

Of the thousands of statements, gestures and reactions reported by the media in the wake of the terrorist attacks in Paris, we are partial to the loose translation of a comment attributed to Patrick Pelloux, a French physician and columnist for the satirical paper Charlie Hebdo: "They didn't win."

As rendered in English, this is a stoic assertion that the newspaper -- and the liberty that it exercises, defends and represents -- will survive the sort of murderous fanatics who attacked it.

We are proud to endorse this attitude and to encourage all travelers to embrace liberty, diversity and tolerance. "They" will only win when we abandon these qualities ourselves.
