The Hawaii Convention Center in Honolulu will reopen all of its exhibit halls in January.
Since the onset of the pandemic, portions of the convention center have been used as temporary space for services such as unemployment claims processing, Covid-19 contact tracing, rental and housing assistance, vote counting for elections and holding the Hawaii bar exam. The center offered space for social distancing that the traditional venues for those activities did not.
But with the majority of those services and activities now returning to their original offices and locations, the 1.1 million-square-foot center is ready to once again make all of its resources and spaces available.
"The Hawaii Convention Center was pleased to serve our community by offering space so these agencies could provide important services in a safe and socially distanced manner," Teri Orton, general manager of the Hawaii Convention Center said in a statement.
Among the shows already on the books for early 2022 are the International Society of Indoor Air Quality and Climate's Healthy Buildings 2022 event in January and the Hawaii Hotel & Restaurant Show in March.
During the pandemic, the convention center upgraded its
infrastructure to offer clients the option of allowing guests to attend
virtually. A new turnkey video-production service has been added that includes
professionally coordinated prerecording management, webinar and
live-stream production.
The Hawaii Convention Center is a state-owned facility opened in 1998 managed by ASM Global.
