Abercrombie & Kent is opening an office in Brazil and adding several small, luxury private-jet itineraries this year, the latest in a series of upgrades and expansions by the luxury-tour operator.

The best might be yet to come as the company emerges from its recent sale to Chinese real estate developer Zhonghong Group.

A&K USA chairman Phil Otterson had hinted just after the sale was announced last fall that he would have some exciting news to share once that deal was complete.

And while that is now done, the latest news, he said, is unrelated, part of an ongoing series of upgrades and expansions that had been in the works before the sale, including renovations to its Sanctuary Retreat camps in Africa.

So when might we hear more about A&K's post-sale plans? Otterson now said he might have more news to share in another month or two.

In the meantime, A&K's Brazil office has officially opened and will be begin accepting travelers next month, the company said. The office is A&K's sixth in South America and 53rd in the world.

"There has been growing interest in travel to Brazil, especially after the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Summer Olympics," A&K founder, president and CEO Geoffrey Kent said in statement. "We recently featured Brazil on an around-the-world journey by private jet that I led. Our guests loved the cosmopolitan vibe of Rio, the perfect sendoff before our adventure in the Pantanal, South America's Everglades.  Though jaguars are notoriously difficult to spot in the wild, we saw several, both along the riverbanks and swimming in the river."

The office in Rio de Janeiro is headed by Mikael Castro, who the company said "brings more than 10 years of experience in planning and operating tours that focus on adventure, history and culture, as well as the food and music that make Brazil unique."

"We felt it was important to have our own office in Rio to manage the complex logistics of travel in such a large and diverse country," said A&K regional managing director Mario Muzzio.

A&K will also be expanding its Wings Over the World small-group, private-jet tours this year.

First introduced in China, India and Indochina last year, A&K has added trips to the Mediterranean and Australia for 2017. The Mediterranean trips, starting at $29,995 and limited to 13 guests, include stops Lisbon, Barcelona, Monaco, the Amalfi Coast (Italy), Dubrovnik and the Elafiti Islands (both in Croatia).

The Australia trips, starting at $25,495 and limited to 20 guests, include Sydney, the Great Barrier Reef, a visit to a family sheep ranch in the Outback and the Yarra Valley.
