InsightNot many new resorts in Mexico adhere to the red-tile-roof, hacienda-style of design associated with the architecture of old Mexico’s smaller towns and rural villages.

In fact, most of the newer properties that line the Caribbean and Pacific coasts are cutting-edge, chic and dramatic with barely a sombrero in sight.

GayNagleMyersPalace Resorts’ latest enhancements and renovations to the brand’s signature property, Moon Palace Golf & Spa Resort in Cancun, raise the bar on style, ambience and aesthetics.

The all-inclusive property comprises three sections — Moon Grand, Sunrise and Nizuc. It recently completed a $22 million renovation of the Nizuc section, which includes 120 guestrooms, the lobby, pool area, food and beverage outlets, gym, salon and the Tortugas Ballroom.

Moon Palace Cancun PubThe Nizuc renovation is part of a larger renovation program that Moon Palace began in 2012. Last year, the property unveiled the $55 million Sunrise renovation and announced plans to construct a 140,000-square-foot convention center that will host the May 7 kickoff of the annual Tianguis Turistico convention.

“As we begin 2014, the Palace Resorts family is eager to enter into Moon Palace’s next chapter to further our brand’s mission of taking our ‘awe-inclusive’ concept to new heights to redefine the notion of what an all-inclusive experience can and should offer,” said Gibran Chapur, executive vice president.

Nizuc’s new look fits that bill with modern minimal glamor mixed with vibrant artwork, mile-high ceilings, elephant tusk lobby chandeliers and the debut of an authentic Irish bar called the Pub, a stark departure from the Cancun setting.

There’s also a new minigolf course and a kids’ club Playroom with 11 game rooms, a theater, an arcade zone, two playgrounds and a beauty salon.
