Mexico vacation spots on AmEx, TripAdvisor top 10 lists: Travel Weekly

Data from both American Express Travel and TripAdvisor point to an upswing in travel abroad from June 1 through Aug. 31, and Mexico stands to benefit from that wanderlust.

The destination appeared on both companies’ top 10 lists of travel preferences of U.S. travelers.

TripAdvisor’s Summer Vacation Value Report indicated that six of the top 10 destinations for U.S. travel this summer are outside the U.S.

Cancun ranked No. 4 on that list and Playa del Carmen came in at No. 9.

Puerto Vallarta, meanwhile, was No. 3 on the list of the top city destinations as reported by American Express Travel.

Trending this summer are longer “babymoons” for expectant parents, an increase in milestone celebrations abroad and an upswing in longer romantic escapes for millennial couples who seek more trip-planning guidance from travel advisers, according to American Express Travel.

The least expensive time to travel is the end of August, when prices tend to dip below the summer peak, according to TripAdvisor.

The average cost of a one-week summer trip to Cancun, for example, came in at $1,959, including hotel for seven nights, roundtrip air from the U.S. and three meals a day, the review site said.
