For Cancun, 2017 proved to be a pretty good year, with international visitors increasing by more than 9%, bringing more than 7.6 million tourists to the destination in the first three quarters. In that vein, the destination is poised for a bustling new year with plenty of new development.

"Cancun and the Riviera Maya are gearing up for a fantastic 2018," said Lizzie Cole, director of the Cancun Tourism Board, at an event held to celebrate Cancun's profitable year. "New luxury and all-inclusive hotels, additional connectivity via our air partners, and world-class dining and amenities will continue to entice travelers and provide an excellent vacation experience for visitors."

Here is a look at a few of the most recent hotel openings in Cancun/Riviera Maya to take us into 2018.

Looking to 2018, Playa del Carmen will welcome its newest resort in April. The Reef 28 will be an adults-only resort right in Playa del Carmen, with access and special rates at the famous Mamita's Beach Club.

The resort can shuttle guests to the other two sister properties in Coco Beach or Playacar to enjoy the beaches there, as well.
