Tequila is named Latin America's first Smart Tourist Destination

Tequila, the town in Jalisco that gave its name to its most famous export, has become certified as the first Smart Tourist Destination in Mexico and Latin America. The designation is given by the Smart Tourist Destination, a project that recognizes destinations that have cutting-edge technological infrastructure and guarantee sustainable development.

One of 232 members, Tequila is recognized for its sign language and Braille translations, as well as wheelchair ramps throughout town. It has also taken embraced green energy through the installation of solar panels. The town also provides a free app that contains information on shops, tourist products and services for visitors. Free WiFi has been provided in the historic center, and a big data system generates information on traffic, peak hours and commercial activities.
