Tianguis Turistico 2024 will be held in its traditional host city of Acapulco next year, confirmed Mexico secretary of tourism Miguel Torruco Marques, an apparent reversal of a plan to pull the tourism conference from the city after it was battered by a Category 5 hurricane.

According to a statement on the government's website, Tianguis will take place in Acapulco April 8 to 12, 2024, a month after it was originally planned.

The decision comes just a week after the government announced it would not be hosting the event in Acapulco, given the widespread damage to infrastructure, homes, and hotels across Acapulco after Hurricane Otis battered the coastline.

The trade conference, Mexico's most important event for tourism business, will be made possible through investments from businessmen and the help of the federal government to rebuild Acapulco in the coming months. The plan is to reopen 35 of the destination's hotels in order to have enough accommodation for the event to take place.

"Acapulco will shine again as in the best of times, and will continue, through its talented tourism service providers and the private sector as a whole, giving national foreign tourists, as well as Mexican society, great satisfaction," Torruco Marques said in a statement.
