South Africa's AndBeyond Phinda Vlei Lodge has been updated with a style designed to evoke a sense of Old World luxury.

The intimate AndBeyond Phinda Vlei Lodge, located in South Africa's KwaZulu-Natal province, will be reopening in June after a complete refurbishment.

The lodge is located in a private game reserve encompassing 110 square miles of protected wildlife land. Overlooking the reserve's vlei (wetland) system on the edge of the sand forest, its location offers ever-changing game viewing from the comfort of the travelers' bed, shower or private plunge pool.

The lodge's new design is inspired by the turn-of-the-century plantation style that is characteristic of KwaZulu Natal's sugar cane and pineapple barons. Think antique tapestries, fine art, vintage cottons and linens and elegant silver and crystal.

The bedrooms and bathrooms have been redone to evoke a sense of Old World luxury. The lodge now also features a library that offers a quiet space for travelers.

Among the new features is the dining deck, a spot for al fresco dining with views of the adjoining wetland.
