Marriott International's Autograph Collection has opened its first safari property in Tanzania with the launch of the Mapito Safari Camp near Serengeti National Park's Fort Ikoma gate.

The camp comprises 15 tented suites, featuring retractable canvas roofs and in-room telescopes for stargazing, as well as a two-bedroom villa. Located in the wilderness area adjoining Serengeti National Park, the property offers game drives, night safaris and cultural experiences in nearby Robanda Village.

Designed by Arusha-based Dunia Designs, the camp incorporates Tanzanian craftsmanship, including textiles from the Ifakara Women Weavers Association and beadwork from local cooperatives. The property includes a spa offering treatments with indigenous botanicals, a gym and a rim-flow pool with embedded lights.

Dining and drives

Dining at Njia Restaurant features seasonal produce from the camp's vegetable garden. Activities include guided game drives, hot-air balloon rides and cultural workshops with Ikoma artisans.

The camp employs a 90% Tanzanian workforce and has restored the local Robanda Healthcare Centre with a full-time doctor providing free services to the community. During construction, the project generated more than 250 jobs.

Mapito Safari Camp is accessible via Fort Ikoma Airstrip, approximately 75 minutes from Kilimanjaro Airport. The property participates in Marriott Bonvoy loyalty program.
