Manta Resort underwater suiteImagine yourself encapsulated within a turquoise blue bubble, watching shoals of reef fish swimming lazily by from the comfort of your bed. This is the experience that awaits you in the new underwater suite recently opened by Manta Resort on Pemba Island in Tanzania.

The floating structure provides three levels. The landing deck, at sea level, has a lounge area and bathroom facility. A ladder leads up to the roof, which has a lounging area for sunning by day and stargazing at night.

The highlight, however, is the downstairs area. Panes of glass afford guests almost 360-degree sealife viewing. Some fish have taken up residence around the outside of the suite, which affords them some protection from predators.

By night, the underwater spotlights beneath each window around the room attract the shyer and more unusual fish. Coral is already establishing itself on the anchoring lines and around the underwater structure. Octopus and even Spanish dancers have been seen attaching themselves to the glass panes.

The underwater room costs from $750 per person, per night. For more information, email the Manta Resort at [email protected].
