Steve Wynn partnered in designing the golf
course for his new hotel, and surely he had a hand in the
eye-popping color scheme of the main lobby, but it was his wife
Elaines love of the primrose that led to the naming of the three
wedding venues at the Wynn Las Vegas.
The larger of the
two salons, the 125-seat Lavender Salon, was named for a shade of
color found in the primrose, said Jacqueline Montoya, wedding salon
director. The smaller Lilac Salon, also named for a shade of the
primrose, seats up to 65 people. Neither are decorated in the
colors that represent their names, Montoya said.
The decors are
simple and identical, Montoya said. They really are not decorated.
Theyre very simple, so couples can make them as elegant and
extravagant as they want.
The outdoor venue
is called the Primrose Courtyard. It can seat 40 guests easily for
a wedding ceremony, 50 if they need to, Montoya said. If the
Primrose Courtyard is used for an event such as a pre- or
post-ceremony cocktail party, where guests are not seated, it can
hold upwards of 75 people, she said.
The seats for a
courtyard wedding ceremony are chairs with hand-designed covers,
unlike the arrangement in the Lavender and Lilac salons, which is
more like a chapel setup -- although the seating almost like long,
luxurious couches instead of traditional, uncomfortable pews,
Montoya said. People are always surprised when they see the
seating, she added.
The courtyard
features terrazzo tiles, 30-foot palm trees, two fountains that
were transported from England and a trellis-like canopy that not
only blocks the sun but also can be used as decor, according to
Montoya.
We can string
flowers, orchids to enhance the style of the venue, she said. Then
we do [flower] petals for the aisle, and we have even purchased
luminaries, she said. We can do an entirely illuminated event. Its
gorgeous.
Weddings, for the
most part, are planned quite a few months in advance, Montoya said.
Generally, most couples interested in an event at Wynn Las Vegas
have the same time line as they would if they booked at home, she
said.
That means most
book six months to a year in advance, some even as far out as 18
months before the event, she said.
Then there are a
few who book in a very, very short time, Montoya said. We have some
calling one month out or a couple of months out.
But none can top
Montoyas opening-day experience.
As I was entering
the resort, I met a lady in the parking garage, Montoya said. I was
chatting with her, just having a pleasant conversation, and as I
entered our venue, she did, too.
It turned out she
was there for her friends wedding, to help out. She said her friend
wanted to be the first one married at Wynn Las Vegas.
The bride got her
wish.
Montoya sat down
and planned the wedding. They got married about two hours [after
that], she said.
The resorts
wedding department has event planning down to a science. Couples
receive the services of one dedicated wedding coordinator who works
with them from start to finish.
We have a wedding
consultant who handles the phones and the computer, and the
coordinator and the consultant work as a team, she said.
We have cell
phones assigned to everyone so they can be contacted if theyre not
in their office; in addition, we dont have [team members] on
schedules, she said. Thats so we dont run into a situation where a
wedding is happening on someones day off.
