Driving the Las Vegas Strip can be a exercise in patience, slow-rolling at well below the speed limit while you watch out for wide-eyed tourists, darting taxis, lumbering tour buses and limousines. Add frequent stoplights to the mix and regular eruptions of the Bellagio fountains, and no matter what you’re driving, chances are you’re not going anywhere fast.

Consider SpeedVegas an antidote to that transportation frustration.

The forthcoming attraction, which was unanimously approved by the Clark County Commissioners on May 6, is a car racing experience where participants will be able to take the wheel of an exotic car or some American muscle for a spin around a Formula One-inspired track.

Located 12 miles south of the Strip on Las Vegas Boulevard, the 100-acre complex will greet visitors arriving from Southern California on the I-15, as vehicles like the Lamborghini Huracan and Corvette Z06 whip around the mile-and-a-half-long track. Designed by Bob Bernard, the track will include 2,200 feet of straightaways, numerous turns and up to 15 degrees of banking. Skilled drivers may push the speedometer up to 120 mph.

Construction on the project — which includes a welcome center, cafe and meetings space — is scheduled to break ground in late August, with the $30 million facility expected to begin operation in January 2016 and open fully in March. Packages will start at $99 and include both ride-alongs and driving experiences for licensed drivers over 18 years old.
