Krave Massive, a hotspot that was being touted as the world’s largest gay nightclub, has been closed by the state of Nevada after being in business for only a couple of months. The nightclub was closed due to undisclosed permitting problems.
The club was beset with problems long before it opened to the public. Originally scheduled to open in late 2012, Krave Massive owner Kelly Murphy received a $50,000 grant from the city to help fund permitting costs, and the club finally opened June 15 of this year. During the delays, employees and vendors complained about checks bouncing, and the Downtown Project, privately backed by Zappos CEO Tony Hsieh, came on board as a minority partner in the club.
The Downtown Project is currently in negotiations to become the operating entity of the business.
Though it is unknown when or even if Krave Massive will reopen, there are plenty of other nightclubs around town that LGBT clients can head to. Here are some of them:
• Share Nightclub, 4636 Wynn Road. One of the hottest gay clubs in town, Share Nightclub is relatively affordable and known for its hip DJs and great drinks.
• 8½ Ultra Lounge and Piranha Nightclub, 4633 Paradise Road. Voted best gay nightclub experience by Seven magazine, this is actually two venues in one, as the name would indicate.
• Charlie’s Las Vegas, 5012 S. Arville Road. This is a much more laid-back place than some of the other thumping nightclubs in town. It’s a cowboy saloon, so expect to line dance the night away, though the venue also plays dance music.
• Drink & Drag, on the second floor of Neonopolis at 450 Fremont St. Kelly Murphy’s bowling, billiards and gaming venue remains open to the public. Staffed by drag queens, Drink & Drag has 12 lanes of bowling, pool tables, dart boards and a bar.
