Park MGM is planning on a July opening for the Mama Rabbit Bar, a mezcal- and tequila-focused establishment from James Beard Award-winner Bricia Lopez.
The space is divided into three areas: a double-sided bar; a casual, tavern-style area; and a lounge with a fireplace where live performances will be held.
The name Mama Rabbit is inspired by Mayahuel, the Aztec goddess of agave and fertility, who legend says produced 400 rabbit children weaned on mezcal and tequila. Over time, those rabbits came to symbolize the entire spectrum of feelings one experiences while embracing the spirits.
"I'm so excited to work with MGM Resorts to create a concept that honors the mythology, the culture and the diversity of spirits born from my roots in Oaxaca, Mexico," Lopez said in a statement. "I can't wait to introduce Las Vegas to my heritage and help guests cultivate a love for mezcal and Oaxaca."
In 1994, Lopez's father founded Guelaguetza Restaurant in Los Angeles, which won a James Beard American Classics Award in 2015 while it under her co-leadership. She was named L.A.'s official mezcalera by mayor Eric Garcetti and one of Zagat's 16 Power Players in L.A.'s dining-and-drinking scene.
The menu will feature an expansive list of both mezcal and tequila; more details on the beverage and culinary programs will be released prior to the summertime opening.
