The owners of the Legoland Florida Resort will build a theme attraction dedicated to the British cartoon character Peppa Pig.

The new theme park is scheduled to open in 2022 adjacent to Legoland in Winter Haven, Fla., and will carry a separate admission.

Legoland filed preliminary plans with city officials in Winter Haven last year. Rides and attraction details for the 4.5-acre park will be announced this summer, according to a release from Legoland's parent company, Merlin Entertainments.

Toy company Hasbro acquired the Peppa Pig franchise in 2019 in a $3.8 billion takeover of Toronto-based Entertainment One. The Peppa Pig TV series is aimed at preschoolers and revolves around an anthropomorphic pig, her family and farm animal friends. The show debuted in the U.K. in 2004 and is seen on Nickelodeon's Nick Jr. channel in the U.S.

Although billed as the first Peppa Pig theme park, the new attraction is preceded by Peppa Pig World, which opened in 2011 near the British town of Winchester in southeast England.
