The bawdy circus and comedy show "Absinthe," housed in a tent in front of Caesars Palace for the last five years, has announced plans to move into the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas by the end of the year.
"Absinthe," the work of Las Vegas-based production company Spiegelworld, debuted on the Strip in 2011. The show has been well reviewed and popular, featuring creative circus and acrobat acts all framed by the clever, if raunchy, comedy of ringmaster the Gazillionaire and his sidekick.
The tent at Caesars will close on Oct. 21 and "Absinthe" is expected to move into a new venue at the Cosmopolitan by the end of the year. Spiegelworld previously produced the show "Vegas Nocturne," which was paired with the dinner theater Rose Rabbit Lie at the beginning of 2014.
"Vegas Nocturne" closed six months later, while Rose Rabbit Lie continued to operate. Meanwhile, Spiegelworld and the Cosmopolitan sued each other, alleging breach of contract and mismanagement. Now, with the Cosmopolitan under new management that was not named in the lawsuits, Spiegelworld appears ready to give another go at producing a show at the resort.
"I was just getting ready to pack up my tent and move to Miami," said "Absinthe's" producer, the Gazillionaire, in a press release announcing the move. "But last night I was offered a deal I couldn't pass up."
This time around "Absinthe" will be reimagined for the old "Vegas Nocturne" space, but Rose Rabbit Lie will continue to operate as an independent supper club.
