LAS VEGAS -- The
Stratosphere Casino Hotel and Tower is adding another extreme
thrill ride to the top of its 1,149-foot-tall observation tower,
the aptly named Insanity -- The Ride.
The attraction, which
will dangle riders and spin them over the edge of the towers
outdoor observation deck more than 900 feet above the ground, is
the fourth and final major thrill ride attraction to be built on
the top of the landmark structure.
It will join the
Stratospheres Big Shot, High Roller and X Scream as the worlds four
highest thrill rides.
The ride was created
by Interactive Rides of Logan, Utah, which also constructed the X
Scream attraction that debuted in 2003.
The companys founders
also were responsible for the design and installation of the Big
Shot, which opened in 1996.
Described as an
inverted centrifuge, Insanity -- The Ride will hold 10 passengers
at a time in escape-proof seats as it spins at 40 mph.
Riders then will
experience a centrifugal force while they are being spun out 64
feet beyond the edge of the observation tower.
As the ride picks up
speed, participants are propelled upward to a 70-degree angle.
Insanity -- The Ride
will cost $8 plus the $9 admission fee to the tower. Rerides will
cost $4 each. The Stratosphere will offer several ticket packages,
including a combination tower admission and Insanity -- The Ride
pass for $15.
