AmaWaterways launched a new ship in Portugal on Thursday. The AmaSintra is sailing the Douro River, with capacity for 102 passengers.
The ship has 51 staterooms, most with outside balconies and floor-to-ceiling windows. The ship is a sister to the AmaDouro, which debuted in 2019.
The AmaSintra will sail one itinerary called "Enticing Douro," a seven-night cruise that will travel roundtrip from Porto. Passengers will visit Regua, Vega de Terron, Salamanca and Pinhao. Itinerary highlights include visiting Palacio de Mateus, known for its Baroque architecture; the village of Castelo Rodrigo; and a port tasting experience. Travelers can choose an optional three-night pre-cruise land program in Lisbon.
"We are thrilled to introduce another beautiful ship to the Douro River, providing our guests with even more opportunities to explore this enchanting region," said Kristin Karst, AmaWaterways co-founder and chief brand ambassador. "Portugal continues to grow in popularity as a river cruising destination, and AmaSintra will offer an unforgettable experience to all who sail aboard."
The AmaSintra includes lounge spaces, a sundeck pool, fitness area and main restaurant.
Travel executive Jenn Lee did the honors
The ship was christened by godmother Jenn Lee, president of agency franchisor Vacation Planners and host agency Travel Planners International.

"Jenn is an inspiring role model for women in the travel industry and an outstanding leader whose influence continues to shape the future of our profession," Karst said. "Her dedication, expertise and commitment to elevating the travel experience aligns perfectly with AmaWaterways' core values, and we are proud to have her as the godmother of our beautiful new ship on the Douro."
The AmaSintra's debut comes the same week that the AmaMagdalena started sailing in Colombia, a new destination for AmaWaterways.
