Emerald Cruises plans to kick off its 2021 river cruise season this month, and by the end of the year it plans to operate no fewer than 38 river cruises in Europe.

The line's Rhine River sailing will depart Basel, Switzerland on Aug. 19, and the first Danube cruise leaves Nuremberg, Germany, on Aug. 30.

Its first cruise will be on Portugal's Douro River, departing Porto on July 31.

Emerald will sail an eight-day itinerary between Basel and Amsterdam on the Rhine, with longer 15-day cruises between Amsterdam and Budapest in the fall.

The Danube cruises will also be eight-day sailings, with cruises sailing from Budapest to Nuremberg and Passau, Germany, and Bucharest, Romania.

Emerald also plans to sail Christmas market cruises, including a 15-day Christmas Markets of Europe sailing between Budapest and Amsterdam.

Guests must be fully vaccinated in order to sail, Emerald said.

Emerald Cruises is offering savings on up to $2,000 per couple on Danube, Rhine and Douro river cruises when booked by Aug. 31, with reduced, refundable deposits and free single supplements. The bookings are fully refundable in case Emerald needs to suspend a sailing, the cruise line said.
