Air India owner Tata Group will pay 10 million Indian rupees each (nearly $118,000) to the families of each passenger who died in the June 11 crash of Flight 171.
"No words can adequately express the grief we feel at this moment," Tata Group said in a post on X. "Our thoughts and prayers are also with the families who have lost their loved ones, and with those who have been injured.
Tata Group also said it will cover the medical expenses of those who were injured and will help with the rebuilding of the BJ Medical College hostel in Ahmedabad, India, which Flight 171 collided with when it crashed.
There were 230 passengers and 12 crew on Flight 171, which crashed shortly after takeoff Wednesday afternoon from Ahmedabad en route to London Gatwick. Air India said Thursday there were 241 fatalities and one survivor.
Flight 171 was operated with a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner. The All India Medical Association posted on X that it has received reports of injuries to 50 people after the flight hit the medical college hostel.
