At least two airlines, American and United, are rewarding
customers with miles in exchange for Hurricane Harvey disaster relief
contributions.
United Airlines sent a note to customers asking that they
support the airline's humanitarian aid and disaster-relief partners: Airlink,
American Red Cross, Americares, Greater Houston Community Foundation and
OperationUSA.
United is giving 250 miles for donations of $50 to $99, 500
miles for donations of $100 to $249, and 1,000 miles for donations of $250 or
more.
United said it has set aside up to 3 million miles for
MileagePlus members who contribute to the above organizations by Sept. 15.
United will match the first $200,000 in contributions.
American Airlines is awarding miles in exchange for
donations made to the American Red Cross.
AAdvantage members who make a minimum $25 contribution to disaster-relief
programs through Sept. 24 will earn 10 miles for every dollar donated. Mileage
will appear on mileage statements within 30 days of donations being made. Donations
