Alaska Airlines will begin daily, nonstop service between San Diego and Kauai’s Lihue Airport June 7.

The daily San Diego-Lihue service will run through Aug. 24 and then drop to four flights a week.

Alaska currently offers daily flights from San Diego to both Honolulu and Maui’s Kahului Airport.

“Alaska Airlines has been a great partner in expanding air service to all four of the major Hawaiian Islands from the U.S. mainland,” Mike McCartney, Hawaii Tourism Authority (HTA) president and CEO, said in statement. “They currently operate more than 700 flights per month making up 23% of total U.S. West seats.”

The HTA estimates the nonstop service from San Diego to Kauai will generate an additional $41 million in visitor spending annually.
