Low-fare carrier Allegiant is ready to begin operations in the Aloha State, and its first routes from Honolulu will be to Fresno, Calif., and Las Vegas.
Flights to Las Vegas will operate three times a week, starting June 29: From Honolulu, they'll depart Fridays, Sundays and Wednesdays; flights from Las Vegas to Honolulu will depart Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
The weekly Fresno flights will depart Honolulu on Sundays, starting June 30, and depart Fresno on Sundays.
Introductory fares start at $174, one way, Allegiant said.
Allegiant specializes in nonstop service from secondary cities to major U.S. leisure destinations such as Orlando, Las Vegas and Phoenix.
The Hawaii flights by Allegiant have been in the works since at least March 2010, when the carrier unveiled plans to serve the 50th state.
Last July, it obtained FAA approval to operate Boeing 757-200 aircraft, moving it a step closer to starting its Hawaii service, but it still needed additional FAA approvals before it could begin. The airline operates a fleet of MD-80s, but the Boeing 757s are necessary for long, overwater service.
