American Airlines has begun codesharing with Porter Airlines, Canada's third-largest airline. United partners with Air Canada, while Delta partners with Canada's second largest airline, WestJet.
The American-Porter codeshare will center on Toronto's primary airport, Pearson, where American offers about 25 peak daily flights and where Porter bases Embraer E195 E2 aircraft.
Effective immediately, American customers can book codeshare connections from Toronto to Edmonton, Ottawa, Winnipeg, Halifax and Victoria, B.C. In the coming weeks, American plans to place its code on Porter flights from Toronto to Calgary; Vancouver; Saskatoon, Saskatchewan; Kelowna, B.C.; and St John's, Newfoundland.
Porter customers can now connect onward from Toronto on American flights to Charlotte, Chicago O'Hare, Dallas-Fort Worth and Philadelphia.
In the coming weeks, Porter will place its code on American flights from Toronto to Honolulu; Nashville; New Orleans; Sacramento, Calif.; Salt Lake City; San Jose, Calif., and Portland, Ore.
The airlines said they intend to add reciprocal mileage accrual and redemption over time.
